History: How the J Came to Rock

In the year 2000 Joseph John Korchmaros Placencia Dias, also known as J, arrived in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica on vacation for his 30th birthday. He came across a natural pool just outside the main town of Puerto Viejo. After smoking a joint, he took to the water and immediately fell in love. He knew this was where he wanted to live. After talking to a few locals he found that the property across from the pool was for sale and, using a credit card with a $5,000 limit, he put down $3,000 to hold the property, promising to pay the remaining $70,000 over the next two years. It was a big gamble - if couldn't pay, he'd lose everything. His last $2,000 went to legal fees.

J returned to the States and began working off his debt. For two years, he worked remodeling houses in Arizona, sending $2,000-3,000 to Puerto Viejo every month as promised. Using recycled material from other jobs, J remodeled his own home and sold it for a cool $60,000, giving him the capital he needed move to Puerto Viejo and get started building his dream.

$5,000 went to shipping his tools and truck. $30,000 of dirt was dumped into the property turning the swampland into the perfect foundation to start building, another $25,000 was put into materials to start the hammock hotel, cabinas and rancho area. After only 4 months of construction J was close to finishing but lacked the extra bit of capital to buy the hammocks, sheets, mattresses and fans.

His sister Suzette came down on vacation with $6,000, J asked to borrow it and now had enough to open the one and only pimp hammock hotel in Costa Rica.

Over the last 5 years the hammock hotel has grown considerably. Many of the guests leaving their mark with Mosaic work and other forms of Arts. Since the opening of the hammock hotel all the money earnt has been put back into the business making Rocking J’s what it is today.

His next project is J's Garden, which will have a swimming pool, flora and vegetation a stable, yoga studio as well as J’s new house.
